Attorney General Gansler, Incred-A-Shred, Junior Achievement to Host FREE Shred-A-Thon
Attorney General Gansler, Incred-A-Shred, Junior Achievement to Host FREE Shred-A-Thon
April 2011
BALTIMORE, MD (April 5, 2011) - 1Attorney General Douglas F. Gansler, Incred-A-Shred, and Junior Achievement are partnering to host a free shredding event in Baltimore City on Saturday, April 9 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, 1400 W. Cold Spring Lane. Incred-A-Shred’s shredding trucks will provide area residents and businesses an opportunity to shred documents, hard drives, DVD’s, old cell phones, memory sticks and any other form of paper or electronic data collection devices that could present a point of opportunity for identity thieves. The shred-a-thon is a great opportunity to help keep sensitive information out of the hands of crooks. Identity theft occurs when someone uses personal information without permission to commit fraud or other crimes. “Dumpster diving,” or rifling through trash cans for personal information is a common tactic used by identity thieves. Safely and securely shredding sensitive documents helps prevent identity thieves from obtaining personal information.

MEDIA NOTE: Members of the media who wish to secure a live interview prior to 9:00 a.m. on April 9th should call Raquel Guillory at 410-576-63567 or Joe DeFeo at 443-677-7184 as soon as possible.

March 2011

As many of you know, identity theft is a very serious issue that impacts all of us. That’s why Maryland’s Attorney General, Doug Gansler, has strategically partnered with Incred-A-Shred and Junior Achievement to raise the level of identity theft awareness and promote the steps people and organizations can take to reduce their risk. This partnership will be highlighted by a FREE shred event which will be held on Saturday, April 9th from 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Baltimore Polytechnic Institute (1400 West Cold Spring Lane at Falls Road; Baltimore, MD 21209).

On this day, Incred-A-Shred will be mobilizing their fleet of massive shred trucks by heading to Baltimore Polytechnic Institute so the region’s corporate, private and nonprofit citizens can shred documents, hard drives, DVD’s, old cell phones, memory sticks and any other form of paper or electronic data collection devices that could present a point of opportunity for identity thieves. The event is free and advanced registration is not needed – just show-up with the items you’d like to shred! No data recovery software in the world will be able to retrieve the confidential data shredded during this event.

What about Junior Achievement? Well, not only does one of Maryland’s most progressive nonprofits reinforce the issue of identity theft protection, but Incred-A-Shred has pledged to donate all proceeds from the event to this very worthy organization whose mission it is to foster work-readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy skills for young people. This event is particularly important as April is Financial Literacy Month. Please come support the public, private and nonprofit sector’s effort to stop identity theft and support a very meaningful organization along the way, at no cost to you! For more information about the event, please call Incred-A-Shred toll free at 888-467-4744 or log onto www.incred-a-shred.com. We hope to see you there!
