The increase in identity theft has fueled legislation designed to protect consumer privacy. Consumers are choosing to do business with companies who are willing to take extreme precautionary and proactive measures to protect their confidential information.
Tips to protect against identity theft:
- Don't give out personal information to anyone.
- Always confirm a company is legitimate.
- Always know when your bills arrive during the month; if they are late, call to check if they were sent.
- Always make sure the “Verify” security symbol is present when making online purchases.
- Run a credit report once a year to be sure there are no fraudulent charges.
